What is the greatest thing of worth and value that you own? What is your time worth? What is your word worth? What is your opinion worth? Ultimately what is your life worth? How about your soul?


Scripture has a lot to to say about our value systems of worth and worthiness towards and before God. Consider some of these prompts and reminders from the Bible.


1 Chronicles 16:25 For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.

Job 28:13 No mortal comprehends its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living.

Psalm 145:3 Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.

Proverbs 11:4 Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

Proverbs 31:10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.

Matthew 3:11 ‘I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Matthew 10:31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Matthew 10:38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

John 12:5 ‘Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.’

Acts 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.

Romans 1:28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

Romans 3:12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.

Romans 8:18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Colossians 1:9-11 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. James 1:26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.

1 Peter 3:4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

Revelation 4:11 ‘You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.’

Revelation 5:12 In a loud voice they were saying: ‘Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and praise!’
