As an important theme in scripture the Bible is described as God's word and Jesus himself within the text is also referred to as "The Word". Here are some encouraging key verses from God's word.


Deuteronomy 13:4 It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.

Deuteronomy 30:14 The word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so that you may obey it.

1 Kings 8:58 May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in obedience to him and keep the commands, decrees and laws he gave our ancestors.

Psalm 119:34 Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart.

Psalm 128:1 Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.

Matthew 8:27 The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!’

John 8:51 Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.’

Romans 2:13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.

Romans 5:19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

Galatians 5:7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?

Ephesians 6:5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.

Philippians 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross!

Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

1 Peter 1:22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

1 John 2:5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him:

2 John 1:6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands.
