As an important theme in scripture the Bible is described as God's word and Jesus himself within the text is also referred to as "The Word". Here are some encouraging key verses from God's word.


2 Samuel 22:27 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.

Job 4:17“Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can even a strong man be more pure than his Maker?

Job 8:6 if you are pure and upright, even now he will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your prosperous state.

Job 14:4 Who can bring what is pure from the impure? No one!

Job 15:14-16 ‘What are mortals, that they could be pure, or those born of woman, that they could be righteous? If God places no trust in his holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in his eyes, how much less mortals, who are vile and corrupt, who drink up evil like water! Psalm 19:9 The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring for ever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.

Psalm 19:10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb

Psalm 24:3-5 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Saviour. Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Proverbs 15:26 The Lord detests the thoughts of the wicked, but gracious words are pure in his sight.

Proverbs 16:2 All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, ‘I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin’?

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Philippians 1:9-11 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.

Titus 1:15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Hebrews 13:4 Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 3:17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

1 Peter 2:1-3 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

1 John 3:2,3 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
